As I reflect on the Mardi Gras season fast approaching, I am amazed at the determination of the people in this area and their continued efforts to make Mandeville and St. Tammany a great place to live. Being a Member of this great Krewe since 1995 and a Board Member since 2000, I have experienced the “highs” and “lows” of bringing this Krewe to a new level. When John, our Captain, and I joined the Board, membership struggled to break the 300 level. Despite the devastating setback Hurricane Katrina dealt to all of us, we are now riding with over 600 Members for the second year in a row! I am very proud of our Board Members, our Lieutenants, and all the Members that together make The Original Krewe of Orpheus a top notch Organization! There are several outstanding individuals that have left a legacy for us to embrace. We must continue to improve this Organization and bring it to a higher level. Our lives have definitely changed, as has the times! The way we handle these changes and the situations they present is up to us. We as a Krewe are challenged with this issue as we slowly move forward and pursue new avenues with which to attract new members. The Board and its Lieutenants must “keep the drive going throughout the year” and “promote this Krewe” to the best of our abilities. Year in and year out we seem to battle our way through hurdles and accomplish our goals. It is a tribute to all of us that we have the drive and determination to make this Krewe the “Best Krewe on the Northshore”. It’s less than two weeks away from our 2007 Parade! What better time than now to start focusing on next season’s Membership Renewal and Membership Drive! Lieutenants, as you talk to your current members, promote the Krewe and encourage renewal of the membership for the next year. And as we draw closer to the parade, the adrenaline flows and the excitement builds, this is the time to get commitments for next year! We need your commitment to improve, as well as maintain, our quality annual events. Also, when you talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers, promote the Krewe and entice them to attend our Membership Party. This is time to get the word out as we show them how much fun this Krewe can really be. The people we have met and the people that have become our friends through this Krewe are invaluable. Again, let’s keep moving forward and enjoy another great ride on February 16th.
