Orpheus

I'm happy to report the krewe is growing by leaps and bounds, thanks to the best board and lieutenants in carnival. Our guys are makin' it happen big time for us, and we appreciate their hard work and can-do attitudes.

FOUR FLOATS ADDED!

It looks like we'll be riding with somewhere in the neighborhood of 23 floats next year - up from 19 last parade. There are still one or two Superfloats available on a first-come first-served basis. The riders who first get their fully-paid membership up to 33 or more get first pick of the remaining floats.

We're very pleased to announce that we will be riding with a total of six Superfloats this year - and a Tandem float (two floats hooked together) that holds over 50 riders! It will be a first ever for the Mandeville - Covington area, and we're justifiably proud.

We have already secured eight maids for the upcoming season, and have even started a waiting list for next year. It's quite an honor to be an Orpheus Maid, and now that we provide a float for the Queen and her Court, it's even more fun for them!

R.S.V.P. NOW - CORONATION CELEBRATION

Looks like we're headed for another sellout for this grand event, Saturday, January 29th at the Castine Center.

Tickets again will be priced at $150 per couple. The cost to reserve an 8 top for the Coronation is $300, with the balance due a month before the event.

Coronation Tables are being reserved starting at the next Lt's Meeting. The food will again be done by Boule's with a Martini Fountain. The music will be Bucktown Allstars and Four Unplugged.

POKERMON!

The poker tournament in May went extremely well. We had more than 80 players. Chairman Brett Lowe reported that veteran Orpheus member and master poker guru Don Le Gros beat out 88 players and walked away with $2,500. Don's fun to watch and learn from - he's usually in the top five of every tournament he plays in.

POKER AGAIN?

We are thinking of having another fall poker tournament if there is enough interest. Please call Brett Lowe to let him know if you and/or other friends would be interested in participating in an Orpheus Texas Hold'em tournament maybe on November 6th.

KING NOMINATIONS

We need nominations for King for this year. Send in a written nomination to our P.O. Box soon. Nominees should be members in good standing of the krewe who have worked for the betterment of Orpheus and the community, as well.

DOOR PRIZES ANYONE?

We need donations for door prizes for the Survivor Party and the Golf Tournament. Call Eddie Schnauder at 504 416-0308 for details and/or donations.

Remember, Mardi Gras is coming upon us fast and is the earliest it has been in a long time. We need our members to pay their dues asap so we can have the right sized floats for everyone, costumes for them to wear and beads for them to throw.

Hail Orpheus! Hail Yes!

Your Captain, John S. Lawrence, Jr.
